Skill Audits

RUN THE STANDARDS.

A drill tests one skill. A skill audit tests all of them in a single scored run, shot cold with no warmup. These are the audits from Pistol as Your Primary, from the Texas LTC floor to qualifications that humble most trained shooters. Run one exactly as the book lays it out, post your score, and see where you actually stand. Read the submission rules before you record a run you want to count.

Run them by the book. These cards are a summary. The full target setup, course of fire, par times, and scoring for every audit are in Pistol as Your Primary. Set the target and run the standard exactly as written. That is what makes a score count here.

  • The Floor
    01

    Texas LTC Qualification

The minimum any armed citizen should pass without effort. 50 rounds at 3 to 15 yards from the ready position, no draw, scored out of 250.

  • Law Enforcement
    02

    FBI Pistol Qualification (2019)

The closest thing to a national police standard. 50 rounds from concealment out to 25 yards, with one-handed shooting, a reload under time, and barricade work. 80 percent to pass, 90 for instructors.

  • Instructor Standard
    03

    Rangemaster Instructor Qualification

Tom Givens's instructor test, weighted toward real defensive distances. A smaller scoring zone and tighter times than the FBI qual. 60 rounds, 90 percent to pass.

  • Aspirational
    04

Federal Air Marshal Tactical Pistol Course

One of the hardest government qualifications ever fielded. 30 rounds at 7 yards on brutal par times. Miss the time on any single stage and the entire course fails.

  • Comprehensive
    05

    Hackathorn Standards

Ken Hackathorn's 13-string evaluation, the blueprint for the IDPA Classifier. 60 rounds from 5 to 25 yards covering nearly every skill. 250 of 300 is excellent.

  • Precision
    06

    Defoor Proformance Pistol Standards

Kyle Defoor's pass-or-fail tests, built around 25-yard precision. Five tests, two with a sprint. The Hat Qual alone, 10 rounds at 25 yards scoring 90, stops most shooters cold.

  • Signature Audit · The Book's Standard
    07

    The Raven

The audit built for this book. One box of ammunition, nine stages, every skill from the draw to 25-yard precision. Blow a stage par and those rounds score zero. Competent 200, Proficient 225, Advanced 240.
